Suzanne Lee, a longtime educator and community activist, is sitting on a good amount of funds so far in the District 2 City Council campaign.

Lee, who along with South Boston coach and activist Bob Ferrara is seeking the seat held by Councilor Bill Linehan, has $28,000 cash on hand, according to her filing with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Linehan is second with nearly $15,000 in his war chest and Ferrara, who also challenged Linehan in 2007, has raised $2,000.

All candidates filed the numbers with the state Tuesday along with expenditures and contributions.

Lee, Ferrara, and Linehan will be facing off Sept. 27 in the preliminary election. After the preliminary, the two victors will face each other again in the Nov. 8 municipal election.

District 2 covers South Boston, Chinatown, the South End, Bay Village, and parts of Dorchester
