The Boston Medical Center is teaming up with Giacomo’s restaurant Monday night to raise money for a good cause.

To show their support and bring in money, physicians from BMC’s Pediatric Emergency Department will be bussing tables and clearing plates at the South End eatery.

All tips earned by the BMC staff and any additional donations from patrons will benefit Kate’s Kart, a roving arts and crafts center that lifts spirits of patients recovering in the department.

This is the 12th year the BMC has teamed up with Giacomo’s to raise money for a cause, but the first time the money will be used to benefit Kate’s Kart.

Kate’s Kart is the brainchild of Kate Prentiss, a 9-year-old Andover resident, who this summer decided to give away the presents she received at her birthday party to the BMC Pediatric Emergency Department, where her aunt works.

“At the mere age of 9, my niece Kate overpowered my own 37-year-old emotions when she combined her dispassion for what is popular with her fervor for compassion, creativity, and connection,” said Dr. Kimball Prentiss, a physician in the department and Kate’s aunt.
