The Wine Emporium, which has two locations in the South End, has announced that they will no longer sell low-price small bottles of alcohol at their Columbus Street and Tremont Street locations.

“We found that the nips and pint bottles were littered all over the place. We tried to clean it up ourselves, but it wasn’t working so we just said we’re done with it,” said LiHua Golden, manager of the emporium’s Tremont Street location.

The Wine Emporium, which has been a mainstay in the South End for over 30 years, will still provide high-quality nips and pints.

South End residents have raised concerns about the trash generated by the sale of nips.

In an e-mail distributed by the Rutland Square Association, the group championed the decision.

“This voluntary action by a valued and respected neighborhood business is an example of the kind of on-going cooperation that yields benefits for everyone," the association said.
