A new restaurant with a familiar name is aiming to bring bit of Southern comfort to the South End.
Estelle’s, at the corner of Tremont Street and Massachusetts Avenue, is set to open Saturday under the direction of local chefs Brian Poe and Eric Gburski.
Poe already operates Poe’s Kitchen at the Rattlesnake in the Back Bay and The Tip Tap Room, which opened in the summer of 2012 in Beacon Hill. Gburski, who will serve as executive chef, is the former chef and general manager of East Coast Grill.
The two plan to serve southern dishes such as hushpuppies, gumbo, fried chicken, Cajun catfish, and po’ boys.
While its culinary style may be from out of town, the restaurant’s name has local roots.
Estelle’s is named after a restaurant that once stood in nearby Roxbury Crossing. Its owner, Frank Williams, welcomed the homage.
