Prominent South Enders from the past and present are set to be the focus of a new book being published as part of Arcadia’s Legendary Locals series.

Hope Shannon, executive director of the South End Historical Society, has signed on with Arcadia Publish to write a book titled Legendary Locals of Boston’s South End.

The book will focus on former and current South End residents who have made a lasting impact on the community.

“I want to include people that represent the entire history of the South End, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present,” Shannon said in a statement. “Irish or Italian, Bostonian or immigrant, criminal or angel—I aim to feature the well-known and the unknown, the infamous and the benevolent. All of these people contributed to the South End that we know today.”

Shannon also hopes the South End community will submit suggestions and photographs for consideration in the book. Shannon aims to include about 150 to 200 profiles and will accept suggestions until Friday, April 19.

Shannon can be contacted via e-mail at hope.shannon@southendhistoricalsociety.org or by phone at 617-536-4445. Those interested in suggesting South Enders can also fill out the suggestion form found here.

Legendary Locals of Boston’s South End is scheduled to be released in early 2014.
