Anyone from grade 3 and up can participate in the fun

The following was submitted by the JCC of the North Shore:

Practice your lay up and get your hook shot ready! The JCC’s popular Jimmy Myers 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is Monday, Jan. 21, and there’s still time to lace up and play.

Myers, a Swampscott native, was a beloved coach at the J for 25 years, where he mentored thousands of kids about good sportsmanship. He ran youth and adult basketball leagues, coached, refereed and led after-school classes.

“Jimmy's legacy lives on everyday at the JCC. He taught kids to have fun and play fair and he inspired me to make it a full-time career to coach young athletes,” said Mike Leykin of Premier Hoops, which is sponsoring the event with the J.

Nearly 100 kids and adults competed in the tourney last year. Here is this year’s schedule:

• Grades 3-5  Check-in: 9:00am; Games Start: 9:30am
• Grades 6-8  Check-in: 11:30am; Games Start 12:00pm
• Grades 9-12 Check-in: 2:00pm; Games Start 2:30pm
• Adults Check-in 6:30pm; Games Start 7:00pm

The fee is $30 per 3-person team if you register by Jan 4 at 7:00pm and $45 after that. All money raised goes toward sports and recreation programs at the JCC.
