The Swampscott Fire Department had trouble fighting a blaze that destroyed a home on Andrew Road on Thursday.

No one was hurt in the three-alarm fire, which took over 50 firefighters from Swampscott, Lynn, Marblehead, Revere, Swampscott, Salem, and Nahant more than an hour to extinguish.

A frozen fire hydrant delayed emergency workers as they scrambled to find an alternate source of water, said officials. Swampscott firefighter Bob Pickett said the rear of the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters first arrived, and that the homeowners were not present. He said two rabbits were rescued from the house.

A neighbor attempted to get a dog and cat to leave the burning building but got no response. The dog perished in the fire, said officials, and the cat has not yet been found.
