Waltham kids in Globe Scholastic Art Awards

Several young artists from Waltham won the 2009 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards.

For the contest, students in grades 7-12 enrolled in public, private, and parochial schools in Massachusetts submitted paintings, film, apparel, photography, jewelry, mixed media, prints, and sculptures. Some 5,198 students, nearly twice as many as last year, participated.

Judges voted on Gold Key (GK), Silver Key (SK), and Honorable Mention (HM) awards from 5,274 individual entries by students from 343 schools.

Here are the Waltham winners:

John W. McDevitt Middle School - Lucretia Berozsky (SK), Marissa Giardina (SK), Christopher Gonzalez (HM), Rosemary Lindsay (HM), Gabriela Ramirez (HM)

Waltham Senior High School - Kaitlynn Beach (HM), Kayla Bertolami (HM), Jose Palencia (HM), Jennifer Valenza (HM)
