Girl Scouts partnering with Sports Club/LA-Boston

Posted April 20, 2009 06:00 AM

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts are partnering with The Sports Club/LA- Boston on a Healthy Initiatives program that kicks off Tuesday at the Girl Scouts’ April Vacation Day Camp at Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham.

The Sports Club/LA-Boston is sending experienced yoga and fitness instructors and a nutritionist to Pop Star Camper Day at Camp Cedar Hill. They will teach Girl Scouts yoga, dance and how to make nutritious meals.

As the nation is facing increased rates of obesity and diabetes in children, the Girl Scouts are dedicated to teaching girls about nutrition and fitness in ways that will prepare them for a lifetime of good health and well-being.

The Sports Club/LA-Boston will work closely with the scouts on their healthy living initiative focusing on four areas: healthy eating, fitness, stress-management, and wellness. In addition to the sessions on Tuesday, programs will include creating a “Fun and Fitness Badge” pilot program for Cadette Girl Scouts, and sponsorship of the Girl Scouts annual Leading Women Awards.

“We are very excited to be working with The Sports Club/-LA-Boston on this important healthy living initiative,” said Ruth N. Bramson, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. “Today’s girls face many stressful challenges and a healthy body helps a healthy mind.”

“The Sports Club/LA- Boston is thrilled to collaborate with the Girl Scouts to teach children about how to live an active, healthy lifestyle,” said Kristin McEachern, the club’s general manager.

  1. It's great to see mainstream organizations like the Girl Scouts partnering with health professionals to bring nutritional and exercise information to the young. Kids are bombarded with ad programs promoting diets high in transfats, refined starches and sugars. It is important to get a credible alternative voice to teach them the importance of a truly healthy diet high in whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, fish and chicken, along with with exercise and proper hydration.
Keep up the good work GS of Eastern Mass!!
