Restaurant Week comes to Waltham

Hungry? Want to get out of the house and try something new? Organizers are encouraging customers to celebrate food and Waltham’s History with the city’s first-ever Historic Waltham Restaurant Week.

From July 12th to July 18th, restaurants throughout the city will be offering meal specials to commemorate Waltham’s 125th anniversary as a city. Start the day off with brunch at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. Have lunch on Moody Street at the Tea Leaf, a boutique tea shop. End the day with an Italian dinner at the Chateau, or at Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse.

Many of the featured dishes will be priced at $18.84, the year Waltham became a city, said event organizer Sally Collura. Other dishes may be named after a piece of Waltham’s history, to highlight the city’s month-long Waltham Historic Days.

For Sally Collura, the week-long celebration is a great way to remind residents of all Waltham has to offer, while also commemorating the city’s history.

“Since the economy has taken a downturn, it would be great for people to take advantage of the families not going on long vacations,” said Sally Collura, who is a City Councilor and owner of the Tea Leaf.

The week is being modeled after Restaurant Week in Boston, and Collura is encouraging other Waltham restaurants and businesses to participate.

“I’m trying to get as many restaurants as possible,” she said. “I’m asking [restaurants] to use their imagination and come up with a special fixed menu with signature dishes.”

  1. Oh, I love restaurant weeks!!!

One of the best thing to do is get a bunch of friends together and go out. A little bit of competition can sneak in too.

I hope Waltham's Restaurant Week is a huge success for everyone.

  1. Jake's Dixie Roadhouse is hands-down the worst meal I've ever had in my life, and I've eaten out a LOT! That being said, there are a lot of great restaurants in Waltham, with Biagio and Il Capriccio being among the best. I hope a lot of restaurants participate!

  1. I enjoy the many restaurants on Moody Street and will take advantage of this opportunity. The many ethnic restaurants is great. I will sample many new restaurants and I will revisit Jake's, as I have always enjoyed the BBQ!
