Former BC, NFL player to speak on recruiting

Posted November 4, 2009 02:06 PM

A National Collegiate Scouting Association educational speaker, Stalin Colinet, will speak Nov. 5 at Gann Academy about the college recruitment process.

As the first semester of this school year winds down, high school student-athletes step back to evaluate both their athletic and academic performance thus far. Success in both is extremely important especially for the student athlete hoping to pursue a collegiate athletic career.

The recruitment process can be very confusing and frustrating for many students and their parents, but former NFL player, Stalin Colinet, will be in town to clear up the myths and misconceptions of the college recruitment process through the popular seminar, “College Recruiting Simplified,” at Gann Academy on Thursday, November 5th at 7pm.

Coming from the Bronx and of Dominican heritage, a career in professional football seemed highly unlikely. However, Stalin Colinet was determined to defy the odds and pursue his passion of football.

A successful high school career landed Stalin a spot at Boston College where he was named All-Big East in 1996 and voted the Best Defensive Player in New England. Based on his collegiate career, Stalin eventually became the first Dominican player to be drafted and play in the NFL when he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft.

Stalin also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars during his NFL career. With an inspiring story to share, Stalin hopes to show young student-athletes how they can achieve their athletic goals by helping them understand the collegiate recruiting process.

Through NCSA’s “College Recruiting Simplified” seminar, Stalin will define the “Five Things You Need to Know” and “Five Things You Need to Do” while going through the college recruiting process.

The “College Recruiting Simplified” seminar is open to all high school student athletes and their parents. Gann Academy is located at 333 Forest St. Waltham, MA 02452.
