Hovey Players open season with Stoppard comedy

The Hovey Players are entering their 74th theatrical season this weekend with the comedic show "The Real Thing" by Tom Stoppard.

The Hovey Players, a nonprofit community theater group, that has been in Waltham since 1936. Even though the group has been performing shows regularly, Publicity Director Tracy Sullivan said many people have told her they thought the theater had closed or folded years ago.

The show opens this weekend at the Abbott Memorial Theater theater on Spring Street next to the Waltham Public Library. "The Real Thing" is a Tony-winning show about an intellectual playwright's romantic relationships, according to a press release.

Performances of The Real thing will be at 8 p.m. on November 6, 7, 13,
14, 19, 20, and 21; and at 2 p.m. on November 15. Tickets are $16 for
adults and $14 for seniors and students. For reservations, email
