Although Embassy Park is nestled among the bustle of Moody Street in downtown Waltham, its poor design and modest size — only 5,600 square feet — make it an overlooked resource, according to Lucia Droby, executive director of Waltham-based COGdesign, a nonprofit group that provides free landscape design advice to community groups.

COGdesign and the city are cosponsoring an Embassy Park redesign competition that is running through Nov. 5As an introduction to the competition and the park, a “community visioning” event will be held Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. to give people a chance to talk about the park’s unique aspects, collect feedback about it, and provide inspiration from Boston-area public art installations.

The event is free but registration is required at www.embassy-park.org. There will be an exhibition and awards ceremony later in the year, and top designers will get cash prizes.
