Gore Place, the 1806 mansion and estate in Waltham, has released a free mobile application that gives users a self-guided outdoor tour of the grounds.

The application, designed for smartphones, also shares the story of the Gore landscape, and farming in early New England.

Entitled "My Farm at Waltham," the application is available for download here. Beginning April 16, the app will be available for free download on iTunes.

For visitors without a web-enabled mobile device, iPod Touch units will be available for rent during museum hours for $5.

“This new app will greatly enhance the visitor’s experience of the estate by helping them to imagine what it was like to visit the estate in the time of the Gores," said Tamar Agulian, Gore Place education specialist. "It will also serve as a virtual tour of this land from anywhere in the world."

The program was supported in part by a Museums for America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
