Cars will not be allowed to pass over the tracks at the Roberts/Brandeis commuter train station in Waltham this weekend as the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company replaces them.

A detour will be in place this weekend for cars, trucks and other on-road vehicles at the Brandeis/Roberts commuter rail station due to a track replacement project.

The detour is necessary because the vehicles will not be able to cross the tracks at the station while the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company replaces the tracks.

The tracks are deteriorating and are in need of replacement, according to an announcement from the city.

The construction will start at 11 p.m. on Friday night and is planned to end by 8 p.m. on Sunday night, Oct. 7.

Residents can use the Waltham Police Department's Twitter, Facebook and website for up-to-date information.

Commuter rail and bus services for the station will continue to run. Parking will be available at the Roberts/Brandeis lot on either side of the detour. Residents can check with the transit authority for updates on this.

For more detailed route detour information, visit the city's website.
