On the day after Thanksgiving, Waltham residents are invited to kick-start this holiday season with the city's annual tree lighting.

The tree will be lit at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23 on the Waltham Common, according to a notice online from Mayor Jeannette McCarthy's office.

The Waltham High School Show Choirs will perform classic holiday songs. Santa’s mailbox, provided by the Waltham Women’s Club, will also be set up on the common for children to leave their letters to Santa during the holiday season. Each child's letter should have a return address, according to event organizers.

There will also be a chance for children to sit on Santa's lap at City Hall after the event. Parents are allowed to bring cameras to snap a photo.

For more information, visit the City of Waltham's official website.
