Jeannette Aline (Bourque) McCarthy, the mother of Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, died on Feb. 14 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She was 81 years old.

The mayor told the Globe last week that her mother had to be rushed to the hospital Feb. 9 during the blizzard that happened that day.

According to an obituary from the Joyce Funeral Home in Waltham, Mrs. McCarthy is also survived by her husband, Charles R. McCarthy, Sr., several grand- and great-grandchildren, and a brother and two sisters, among others.

Mrs. McCarthy also was the mother of two other children, the late Charles R. McCarthy, Jr. and the late Kathleen Beatrice McCarthy, and was the mother-in-law of the late Cheryl McCarthy.

Mrs. McCarthy was a life-long Waltham resident and worked as a waitress at Brandeis University until her retirement, according to the obituary. She enjoyed staying busy with knitting, baking, and cooking.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham, Mass., 02453.
