Mount Auburn Hospital opens new memory center

Mount Auburn Hospital introduced their new Center for Memory Evaluation and Support earlier this month, according to the hospital.

The Memory Center offers comprehensive, multi-disciplinary memory evaluations and individualized cognitive assessment for aging adults who have concerns about their memory and mental clarity. The center consists of a team of geriatricians, neuropsychologists and a social worker led by Dr. John Anderson, chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine.

Jeanette Clough, president and CEO of the hospital, said hospital leaders are pleased to offer memory support to geriatric patients and to the Mount Auburn community.

"It has become more and more crucial to serve a growing aging population with services such as these,” Clough said. “Our memory assessment team is committed to supporting both patients and families who face memory impairment and cognitive decline.”

While it is common for older adults to experience minor difficulties recalling names or remembering appointments, more serious problems involving money management or unsafe driving can call for medical and neuro-psychological assessment.

The advanced diagnostic technologies and community-based support services used by the Memory Center team help evaluate and treat conditions ranging from mild cognitive impairment, to depression, to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
