Watertown planning officials will hold a public hearing July 10 to discuss imposing a one year ban on opening medical marijuana dispensaries in town.

The moratorium is popular in many Massachusetts communities since Attorney General Martha Coakley deemed the approach lawful earlier this year. It gives town officials until next summer to figure out where dispensaries should be located.

The temporary ban, which would be made by amending town zoning laws, is proposed to be in effect through June 30, 2014, according to the Watertown Planning Board.

The hearing will take place at 7 p.m.at Watertown Town Hall, 149 Main St.
