Wellesley High School graduate Nate Freiman, taken in the 8th round of Major League Baseball's annual draft by the San Diego Padres, returned home Friday to sign autographs and throw out the first pitch at a Little League playoff game at Reidy Field.

Freiman, chosen as the 234th overall pick, is coming off a senior year at Duke University in which he led the Blue Devils in batting average (.352), home runs (20) and RBIs (62) for the third straight year. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound first baseman also was a first team Academic All-American.

Freiman is scheduled to make his professional debut with the Eugene (Ore.) Emeralds of the Class A Northwest League on Saturday night.
