The Wellesley Board of Selectmen will be holding two public hearings to discuss whether all five tax levy classification should be taxed at a single rate or a split rate for fiscal year 2010, town officials said.

Wellesley traditionally has a single rate on all residential, commercial, industrial, personal, and open space properties. For fiscal year 2009 the tax rate is $9.47 per $1,000 of value.

Tax classification hearings are mandated by the state to be held annually. The assessors office will present its findings on potential fiscal effects to the selectmen during their Monday meeting.

The Board of Selectmen will hear public comment on Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Felix Juliani Meeting Room in Wellesley Town Hall. The board will vote on Dec. 14 to either keep the single rate or move to a split rate.
