Republican State Reps Elizabeth Poirier and Richard Ross will hold a press conference Wednesday concerning the state Senate seat held by U.S. Senator-elect Scott Brown.

Both Ross and Poirier have been rumored in recent weeks as potential candidates for the seat, which will become vacant when Brown formally resigns.

Poirier, who announced Monday that she and Ross would be at the press conference, would not say whether she is running. Ross could not be reached for comment.

Poirier has served in the Legislature from the 14th Bristol District since 1999. Ross is in his third term representing the 9th Norfolk district. He was elected in 2004.

Scott Brown won a special election Jan. 19 for the U.S. Senate seat formally held by the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. He was elected to the state Senate representing the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex District in 2004.

The press conference will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the community room of the North Attleboro Police Station.
