A 60-year-old Wellesley woman was seriously injured after she was struck by a Jeep while crossing Route 9 with her dog Monday, police said.

Wellesley police officers arriving on scene of the 3:30 p.m. accident found the woman on the median strip near Route 16. A preliminary investigation indicated she had been standing with her dog when she was struck by a Jeep traveling west on Route 9.

The woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with a head injury and other traumatic injuries, police said. The driver of the Jeep was not injured and the small dog was taken to an animal hospital with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
