When the St. Michael’s College men’s hockey team knocked off visiting Colby College, 5-2, last weekend, sophomore Josh Geary of Wellesley had a big hand in the milestone victory. It was the Purple Knights’ first win over the Mules in program history.

Geary, a Bay State Conference MVP and scoring leader at Wellesley High, had his team’s final goal (an empty-netter) and an assist against Colby; through 11 games this season he had 4 goals and 2 assists, including a power play goal.

St. Michael’s was 5-6 overall (5-4 ECAC East, 2-0 Northeast-10) going into road games this weekend at Saint Anselm and New England College.

A 6-foot, 185-pound forward, Geary played hockey at Phillips Academy in Andover in 2008-09, and last season led all St. Michael’s freshmen with 24 games played and 12 points.

‘‘Josh is a steady player, solid at both ends of the ice and he plays in all situations,’’ said head coach Chris Davidson. ‘‘He’s definitely a favorite in the locker room with his teammates.’’
