Nothing stands in the way of private cable and Internet providers coming to fix equipment in Wellesley in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, the town's utility said today.

The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) sent out the following release this morning:

"Wellesley residents have been informed by private cable and Internet providers that they cannot make repairs due to downed Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) lines. Further, residents have been informed that these providers will not repair Internet and cable service until the Wellesley MLP lines are repaired.

"This is not true.

"The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant restored electricity to all of its customers, both residential and commercial, in Wellesley early Monday morning. The WMLP has repaired all of the power lines, and there are no lines down at this time. When contacting either Verizon and/or Comcast to report an outage, be sure to inform them that you have electric service and there are no downed electric lines in your area.

Thank You."
