Wellesley Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that killed a 25-year-old man on Friday, according Lieutenant Marie Cleary.

Edwin Chan of Boston was traveling west on Route 9 between the Route 16 Bridge and the Fire Department headquarters at around 8:30 p.m. when his motorcycle hit a concrete barrier on the right side of the road that separates the travel lane from an on-ramp, according to police.

Police found Chan lying unconscious in the road. They initially called a Medflight helicopter, which landed in the parking lot of the old St. James property on Route 9, but because of the severity of Chan’s injuries, he was taken by ambulance to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:20, according to police.

“As of this time, we don’t have any answer for what was the cause of the accident,” said Cleary.

Chan was wearing a helment, said Cleary.
