Wellesley Police are investigating a home break-in that occurred Tuesday on Springdale Avenue, according to police.

The break-in, which was discovered just after 3 p.m., probably happened in the early afternoon hours, when the resident was away from the home, according to police.

The suspect likely got in through an unlocked sliding back door.

A laptop and some costume jewelry were taken from the house, according to Lieutenant Marie Cleary.

Cleary said that the number of break-ins this year is about on par with last year.

“There’s not more, or any specific trend,” she said.

Last year, a spate of pre-Christmas break-ins made it seem as if the number of break-ins was spiking, but Cleary said that this year there has been no unusual break-in activity.

“I know we visited this a little while ago,” she said. “It seemed like there were a lot of breaks that were occurring in December. But pretty much, it’s fairly consistent.”
