Wellesley voters backed President Obama's re-election by a healthy margin Tuesday, but also narrowly favored Republican US Sen. Scott Brown's failed re-election bid.

According to preliminary results compiled by the Globe, Obama won Wellesley by a margin of 8,243 to 6,144, over Republican Mitt Romney. But Wellesley voters narrowly backed Brown, 7,267 to 7,222, over Democrat Elizabeth Warren.
