Wellesley Police return lion from big cat caper
Police have returned a concrete king of the jungle that turned a Wellesley Hills front porch into a lion’s den Sunday.
Wellesley Police said a concrete lion that mysteriously ended up on the front porch of a homeowner on Wareland Road Sunday morning was reunited with its true owner in Watertown Monday.

The lion is about three feet tall and weighs about 300 pounds, and its owner contacted police after seeing news reports that it had turned up in Wellesley over the weekend, said Wellesley Police Lieutenant Marie Cleary.
Cleary said more information about the lion would be released later tonight or tomorrow. She said the true owner’s name was not immediately available Monday.
“Whether it’s teenagers or college students, it’s probably some sort of prank,” said Cleary. “Things like this happen – not frequently, but we’ll get reports a few times throughout the year. Sometimes people have house plaques, lawn ornaments, things of that nature. Things that are much more easily moved. They’re taken and placed at other people’s residences.”
The lion did not cause any trouble for police.
“So far he’s been fairly cooperative with our officers,” read the Facebook caption of the lion’s picture.
