Wellesley school officials are asking local parents for their thoughts on changing the district's calendar to start school earlier in August, thus ending the calendar earlier in June.

The proposal comes after Wellesley officials invited parents to forums to discuss how the district drafts each school year's calendar, and what they could do better.

This year, Wellesley students headed back to school the first week of September. However, for the next academic year, officials are proposing to have students back earlier -- either Aug. 25, with an end date of June 17, or Aug. 27, with an end date of June 19.

If locals wish to keep the calendar status quo, then students would begin school Sept. 2, with an end date of June 24.

The new calendar proposals can be seen at Wellesley's official school district website. School leaders are also asking parents to take a brief survey to show which start dates are most popular.
