Man allegedly drives drunk with child in car past police station
A Waltham man was arrested Sunday night near 112 Weston Rd. after he allegedly drove drunk with a child in his passenger seat, police said.
According to police, a driver reported a car being driven erratically past Wellesley Police Department headquarters Sunday around 6:30 p.m. When police found the driver, who had pulled into a parking lot on Central Street, officers detected the smell of alcohol and saw an open 25-ounce can of beer in the driver's cupholder. Police also found three more empty 25-ounce beer cans, a 12-ounce beer can that was open, and a Smirnoff Ice.
Police also said a child was a passenger of the car, but could not give the child's age, gender, or relation to the driver, citing privacy laws. Authorities said they called the Department of Children and Families to notify them of the incident.
Luis Salazar, 39, of Waltham was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, endangering a child while driving drunk, operating to endanger others, driving a car without a license, possessing open alcohol containers in a car, and failing to adhere to marked lanes.
Salazar was released on personal recognizance, police said.
Baseball bat used in fight between Wellesley Fathers
A Wellesley man was arrested Friday night for allegedly threatening to assault another resident with a baseball bat, police said.
A Wellesley father was walking along Cedar Street with his wife and four kids to get to their Barton Road home when John A. Lyons, a 37-year-old Hastings Street resident known to the family, spotted them and drove his car to block their way to Barton Road, police said.
Lyons allegedly got out of his car, put his forehead up to the father's head, and started yelling at him about an incident between their children, authorities said.
After the father asked Lyons to calm down and talk to him later, Lyons allegedly took a baseball bat out of his car, started hitting his vehicle with the bat, and threatened to do the same to the other dad's head, Wellesley police said.
Lyons also allegedly followed the family to their Barton Road home, screaming and swearing at them, police said.
Authorities found Lyons at his house on Hastings Street and arrested him for assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was released on $40 bail.
