Wellesley Police Department

A Pine Street resident was taken by helicopter from Fiske Elementary School to Boston for medical treatment after he fell 25 feet from a ladder.

A Wellesley man plummeted 25 feet to the ground after he fell off a ladder outside his home yesterday, prompting a Medflight helicopter to take him from Fiske Elementary School to Boston for medical treatment, police said.

The man was up on the ladder just after 12 p.m. yesterday, working on his Pine Street house when he fell, said Wellesley Police Lt. Marie Cleary.

The man fell "on his feet," Cleary said, and reported feeling a loss of feeling in his legs. Since that could imply spinal-related paralysis, he was taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital for treatment, Cleary said.

The helicopter used Fiske Elementary to pick the man up because it was the closest pre-designated Medflight zone, Cleary said.

School officials were made aware of the situation and police officers made sure no one was on the field while the helicopter landed, she said.
