Two stop signs will soon be installed on Libbey Street at its intersection with Keith Street in West Roxbury, city officials announced Thursday, citing safety concerns there for vehicles and pedestrians alike.

"Upon inspection, BTD Traffic Engineers determined that drivers traveling on Libbey Street at the approach to Keith Street encounter a sight distance problem," said Boston Transportation Commissioner Thomas J. Tinlin. "I expect that the installation of new stop signs will work to rectify the problem."

He said the decision to post the new signs, which are expected to be installed Friday, was made "in cooperation with local residents and elected officials concerned about safety at this busy intersection."

City police will be notified of the stop signs' installation and will be monitoring the intersection, the city said, adding, "Drivers are reminded that the speed limit in Boston is 30 mph, unless otherwise posted."
