Officials at MSPCA-Angell are trying to find a new home for Errol, whose leg was shattered after being struck by a car recently.

Staff at a local animal medical center are trying to find a permanent home for a stray cat whose leg was amputated after he was struck by a car in West Roxbury.

Workers at the MPSCA-Angell Animal Care and Adoption Center in Jamaica Plain say they named the brown tabby “Errol” and say they are impressed with how well he has recovered since he was hit by the the weekend before Thanksgiving and brought to their facility by a good Samaritan.

His left rear leg was shattered and had to be removed by veterinarians, officials said.

“Unfortunately we see many cats that have been struck by cars and too many times the story doesn’t have a happy ending,” Amanda Kennedy, director of MPSCA-Angell's Animal Care and Adoption Center, said in a statement. “What happened to Errol is terrible, but he’s a very brave cat and he’s recovering so well from his operation. We’re confident that we’ll be able to find him the perfect home.”

The animal care center has set up an on-line donation page for Errol. Donations toward his care, or for the care of animals like him, can be made here: www.mspca.org/errol

"Errol’s story is a reminder of the many dangers associated with cats living outside," the nonprofit animal clinic said in a press release.

"While he was found as a stray, it’s very likely that he was once someone’s pet. The MSPCA-Angell strongly advises that all cats be kept indoors and allowed outside only under direct supervision. The organization has created a number of recommendations for how to keep indoor cats happy and content, and that information can be found by clicking here."
