A Canadian-based café chain will offer free cups of coffee on Saturday to celebrate the recent opening of its West Roxbury store – the company’s second location in the US.

Founded 36 years ago, Timothy’s World Coffee was purchased by Vermont-based restaurant company Bruegger’s Enterprises Inc. in 2009 with the intent of expanding the chain, which operates about 100 stores north of the border, into the US, according to a spokeswoman for the chain.

About five months after opening its first US café inside Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Ohio, the chain settled in Boston. Timothy's opened its first US “neighborhood location” in late September, setting up shop in the Hancock Village Plaza at 667B VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, along the city neighborhood's border with Brookline and near Newton, company officials said.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. the company says it will offer free, freshly-brewed Timothy’s coffee made from one of the café’s eight premium blends at a “grand opening” celebration that feature live music along with specials on K-Cup and whole been coffee, while raising money for Boston-based conservation nonprofit The Massachusetts Audubon Society.

In return for a free cup of joe, guests are asked to donate “spare change (or more)” to Mass Audubon, which cares for 34,000 acres of conservation land statewide, provides educational programs and advocates for environmental policies at the local, state and federal levels, according to an announcement from Timothy’s

In addition to a verity of blends, roasts and flavors of coffee, the café chain sells bakery items and sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, the company says. The 1,800 square-foot West Roxbury location is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and features indoor seating for 30 guests.

“Timothy’s is a strong brand in Canada and has carved out a distinctive position as global coffee experts. We’re confident this will resonate with the café’s new neighbors in Boston and their desire for high quality coffee and choice,” said a statement from Jim Greco, CEO of Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc. and Threecaf Brands.
