West Roxbury resident Yves Fontaine was among dozens of Boston-area youths who took part in soccer clinics last week with Liverpool Football Club legends Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush at Camp Harbor View summer camp on Moon Island.

Also on hand last Tuesday were members of the English soccer club’s foundation, the team’s mascot “Mighty Red” and Linda Pizzuti Henry, wife of club principal owner John Henry, who also owns the Boston Red Sox, the club's foundation said.

The young soccer players received hands-on instruction and competed in scrimmages against the former Liverpool players at the Camp Harbor View summer camp, an initiative run in partnership with the City of Boston and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, officials said.

As part of the club’s 2012 10-day North America Tour presented by Standard Chartered, the Liverpool FC Foundation will visit a variety of local community organizations.

According to the foundation, visits include soccer clinics for Perkins School for the Blind, Red Sox Scholars, Wounded Warrior Project and America SCORES, as well as visits to the Dimock Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Jimmy Fund Clinic and Harvard University.

The soccer team is in Boston to play Italian soccer powerhouse AS Roma as part of their 2012 North American tour. That match is scheduled to be held at Fenway Park on Wed., July 25, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Premier League club founded in 1892 and based in Liverpool, Merseyside is among the most successful and best supported soccer teams in the world. The club has won the English League title 18 times and the UEFA Champions League, formerly called the European Cup, five times.
