A West Roxbury program that serves local seniors will received a $10,000 cash award along with services valued at more than $100,000, the nonprofit said.

The AgeWell West Roxbury initiative was named a Social Innovator for the 2012-2013 Social Innovation Forum by Root Cause, a nonprofit research and consulting firm that partners with other nonprofits, government and business to tackle social issues.

Ethos, the Jamaica Plain-based parent organization to the AgeWell program, was one of five nonprofits in Greater Boston selected by Root Cause to see the cash award and additional services.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Ethos AgeWell West Roxbury to gain greater visibility for our work with the older adult population, expand our network, and build our capacity,” said a statement from Dale Mitchell, executive director of Ethos. “To have an organization like the Social Innovation Forum believe in the AgeWell program, and its mission, is indeed a great honor.”

The program was chosen for its work to fulfill unmet needs of healthy, aging local seniors.

As part the Social Innovator designation, Ethos AgeWell West Roxbury will receive one year of support from the Social Innovation Forum, including consulting, coaching, advising, relationship building, performance measurement and other in-kind services valued at more than $100,000.

The organization will also receive a $10,000 grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation plus an additional $10,000 consulting engagement the year after completing a “key measures” process by Root Cause.

Officials from AgeWell West Roxbury will also have the opportunity to present at the forum’s annual showcase, which gives Innovators the opportunity to pitch their organizations to an audience of potential funders.

Shelter Music Boston; Groundwork Lawrence; GRLZRADIO; and Safe City Academy, a program of the Dorchester Youth Collaborative, were also selected by Root Cause as Social Innovators.
