A new pizza shop is seeking city approval to open in a West Roxbury storefront that used to house an independently-owned Upper Crust Pizzeria.

The Parlour hopes to open a pizza and ice cream location at 1727 Centre St. this fall, according signs on the storefront to a filing with the Boston Licensing Board.

The filing asks for approval to transfer a beer and wine service license, owned by the management of Upper Crust that used to operate there, to the incoming business.

The petition also asks the city to give the new pizzeria a later closing time – midnight instead of 11 p.m. – and to remove three conditions of the beer and wine license, which prohibit beer or wine from being served without food; ban the establishment from running a bar; and require wait service to be provided.

The filing lists The Parlour's manager as James D. Loftus.

This past spring, the Mulry, Regan and Santangelo families closed the Upper Crust Pizzeria they had run at 1727 Centre St. for four years.

It was the last remaining franchisee of the Upper Crust chain, which has closed numerous locations and in October filed for bankruptcy protection after mounting financial problems, labor troubles, and disputes among its partners. Some of chain's locations have reopened.

The West Roxbury storefront formerly housed the Tai Ho Restaurant, which burned down in 2007 in a blaze that left two firefighters dead.

The Universal Hub blog previously reported on The Parlour’s proposal.
