The Meadowbrook School in Weston will announce Wednesday evening the largest single gift the school has ever received in its 84-year history: $5 million from long-time benefactors Penny and Jeff Vinik.

The gift will fund an endowment that will provide faculty bonuses each year before the holiday season. It is a rare contribution both because of its size, and because it directly benefits teachers and staff.

As thanks, the school will name a major campus building in the Vinik's honor.

The gift will be announced tonight at an event at the school that begins at 5 p.m.

Jeff Vinik is the founder and chair of Vinik Asset Management, a minority owner of the Boston Red Sox, and the owner and chairman of the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Arena Football League’s Tampa Bay Storm.

Penny Vinik is a trustee at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She was the president of Meadowbrook’s Board of Trustees for five years.

The Meadowbrook School is an independent day school that employs 70 faculty members and serves more than 300 students from junior kindergarten through eighth grade.
