Newton South’s volleyball team beat Boston Latin, 3-0, last night, behind the defensive effort of Ariel Kaluzhny (22 digs).
“[Boston Latin] has some pretty hard hitters and we knew going in we had to play smart and that there was no room for mistakes,’’ said Lions coach Todd Elwell.
Despite a rough start in the first match, Newton South amped up its defense with senior Tori Bryan (15 digs) and Kaluzhny to take the game, 26-24.
Senior Chloe Jackson jump-served her last two attempts for a 27-25 win in the second game.
The Lions dominated the third game with offensive pressure from Bryan’s 10 kills and five service aces. Rebecca Heller contributed 15 assists.
