Wegmans Food Markets Inc., the family-run New York chain grocery store popular for its low-prices and wealth of food items, will open a supermarket in Newton directly across from The Mall at Chestnut Hill, the company said yesterday. The Rochester, N.Y.-based company recently opened in Northborough - the first in Massachusetts and the largest supermarket in the Bay State. That store is 138,000 square feet with more than 70,000 items.
