Joplin, Mo., schools rebuilding plan passes

JOPLIN, Mo.—Voters in Joplin appear to have approved the largest bond issue in town history, OK'ing a $62 million bond issue to rebuild or replace schools damaged or destroyed in last May's tornado.
"We're excited but we've got a lot of work to do," Superintendent C.J. Huff said Tuesday night, according to The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/Hf5aSM).
Passing the bond issue requires the approval of slightly more than 57 percent of voters. Unofficial results out of Jasper and Newton counties had the bond issue passing by less than 1 percentage point.
Officials have said it will add $65 to the annual school property tax on a $100,000 home.
