Louis C.K.
The comedian's parents met at Harvard and though Louis Szekely (his real name-- 'C.K.' is the approximate pronunciation) spent several years growing up in Mexico, he eventually moved to Newton when he was 7. He became a car mechanic after graduating from Newton North.
In 1984, he tried comedy at a Boston comedy club but could only come up with 2 minutes of material for a 5 minute set. It took another two years before he tried again and became part of the growing Boston stand-up comedy scene.
The stand-up scene here was as legitimate an artistic movement as the salons in Paris, he said.
