Newton North 18, Norwood 0Defense led the way for Newton North. Alex Westlund recorded eight tackles and Kourtney Wornum-Parker intercepted a pass late in the game to seal the victory. Wornum-Parker also caught a touchdown pass for the Tigers. Globe sports, 11/14/09
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Quincy 3, Newton South 2Quincy recorded 81 digs, 43 kills, and 20 aces. They won 17-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13. For Newton South, senior captain outside hitter Celina Chan notched in 11 kills and senior setter Vanessa Gailius brought home 22 assists. Globe sports, 11/14/09

The Lions entered last Friday's Dual County League championship meet ranked second in the state behind Lincoln-Sudbury. South left in virtually the same position, finishing as the runner-up to the Warriors by six total points, 38-44. Boston Globe, 11/6/09

The Newton South girls' cross-country team completed the toughest September in program history, facing two nationally-ranked teams, four teams ranked in the Northeast's top 15, and six teams ranked in the state's top 10. Boston Globe, 10/30/09

Competing in perhaps its toughest meet of the season, the Newton South girls' cross-country team placed fourth at the Hartford Invitational last weekend. The competition has hardly let up, between yesterday's Amherst Invitational and a showdown Wednesday against nationally ranked Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High. Boston Globe, 9/25/09

To commemorate the life of Ucal McKenzie, the first annual McKenzie Friendly at Warren Field honored the late counselor and coach by playing the game that he loved so much: soccer. The Newtonite, 9/22/09

Penn tosses complete game

Newton North's Penn was mightier than anything Framingham had to offer. Quarterback Isaiah Penn ran for two touchdowns, passed for two more, and intercepted a pass, leading the Tigers to a 28-13 win over the Flyers Sunday at Boston College's Alumni Stadium. Boston Globe, 9/21/09

Boys' soccer, 1-1, looks to build strong offense

With a relatively inexperienced team, boys' soccer coach Brian Rooney said he sees the potential to improve every day. 'I've enjoyed working with them a lot,' he said.
