Plans for a new $5.1 million police station suffered a setback Tuesday night when residents at Special Town Meeting voted 162 in favor of and 88 against appropriating funds for a debt exclusion override. The affirmative votes fell just short of the two-thirds majority needed for passage. But the project could be revived. The fate of the new police station will be determined by town residents in an override election this Saturday. If the override is approved, the necessary funding could still be appropriated at spring Town Meeting. - Meg Murphy
