Concussion test a tricky one
A look inside
the testing
Module 1: Word
Discrimination
Twelve target words are shown on the screen. Then the athlete is shown 24 words and must identify the ones from the original target list. This can get tricky: If the word “ice’’ is a target word, something similar - such as “snow’’ - could be used as a nontarget word.
Module 2: Design Memory
Twelve target designs are presented on the screen. The test-taker is shown 24 designs and must identify the ones from the target list.
Module 3: X’s and O’s
A random assortment of X’s and O’s is displayed for 1.5 seconds. Three of the X’s or O’s are highlighted in yellow, and the athlete must try to remember their locations.
Module 4: Symbol Matching
Nine symbols (triangles, squares, arrows) are displayed on the screen, and each is assigned a number from 1 to 9. The athlete must try to remember the symbol-number pairings.
* Module 5: Color Match
The name of a color (red, blue, green) is displayed on the screen in varying colors. The athlete is asked to click only when the color of the letters matches the word.
Module 6: 3-letter Memory
Three consonant letters are displayed on the screen. Then a numbered grid appears and the athlete is asked to click on the numbers in backward order. After 18 seconds, the grid disappears and the athlete is asked to recall the letters.
