The police opened a substation in Quincy Center to try to lessen crime in the area, officials said. The office, at 1416 Hancock St., will be used by the community police officer as well as by the two walking beat officers who currently cover downtown. The space was donated to the police by Street-Works Development LLC, which owns the building in which the station is located. Local officials said they hope the space will help community members to better reach officers in the case of an incident. “We hope to see an increase in arrests and a decrease in disorder,’’ Police Chief Paul Keenan said. - Jessica Bartlett
