BOSTON—Massachusetts state police say they've arrested a drug-dealing suspect and identified him despite his efforts to hide his identity by mutilating his fingerprints.

Police say the man was arrested Wednesday during an investigation in Randolph, just outside Boston. They say he told investigators he was Eduard Ortiz.

Then narcotics detectives noticed his disfigured fingertips.

Close examination for several hours found enough remaining fingerprint characteristics to enter into an FBI electronic database.

Police say there were matches to Leonel Lopez and Leonel Lopez-Ortiz. They say all three suspects are the same man -- and he's wanted for cocaine offenses under various names.

The man is being held in a state police barracks and can't be reached for comment.

Police say he'll be arraigned Thursday on new identify fraud charges.
