Famous figures with Somerville ties

Barack Obama Before he was president, Barack Obama lived in Somerville between 1988 and 1991 while he attended Harvard Law School. He lived at 365 Broadway for $900 a month, drove a 1984 Toyota Tercel to class and picked up $375 worth of parking tickets (that he eventually paid off years later). Obama found the basement apartment through a listing in the Boston Globe. 'He was a very good tenant. He was no trouble. There were no girls or wild parties,' said the landlord. 'He was very industrious. He had an agenda. He wanted to be successful.'
