Prospects for a major bus terminal within the South Station area were improved when a congressional committee allocated $15 million to finance the project. Original plans had included relocating the Continental Trailways bus terminal in Park Square and Greyhound Terminal on St. James into South Station, but had been scrapped when the MTBA took over the project due to unavailable funding.
